Gilbert Self Defense

A curriculum — not a collection of techniques.

We teach self-defense through a deliberate progression that develops understanding, reflex, pressure tolerance and judgment.

Our six-stage framework

1. Understand the situation. 2. Learn the structure. 3. Connect the sequence. 4. Add realistic movement. 5. Apply progressive resistance. 6. Make decisions.

Principle before performance

Balance, distance, connection, posture, frames and leverage help students solve more problems than memorizing a long list of moves.

Progressive pressure — not uncontrolled violence

Resistance is essential, but reckless intensity teaches injury more often than skill. Pressure rises in supervised stages matched to experience.

Safety is part of realism

Partners release holds immediately, control strikes, follow drill intensity and protect one another. Clean mats, clear rules and attentive coaching make long-term preparation possible.

A beginner path that makes sense

Essential positions and attack categories return in a structured cycle. Repetition is intentional; every pass adds timing, resistance and connection.

The culture we protect

No hazing, uncontrolled first-day sparring, humiliating beginners, reckless submissions, ego-driven intensity or glorification of violence. Yes to hard work, honest feedback and mutual respect.

You do not have to feel ready to begin.

We will meet you where you are and show you how the training works.
